According to official comment, publisher Deep Silver and the developer could not agree on a “vision” for the game and so the project was put on the back burner. However, as time went on it seemed less and less likely that Dead Island 2 was going to make its announced 2015 release date, and eventually the game was put on indefinite hold. Originally announced back at E3 2014, Dead Island 2 was to be a Yager Development product, from the folks that brought us the critically acclaimed war shooter Spec Ops: The Line. Couple that with the fact Dead Island 2 has been in development limbo for quite some time and it seems more likely than not that the game has been put on hold. While the removal of a Steam page is by no means a smoking gun when it comes to game cancellations, it is usually not a good sign. Most recently, eagle-eyed gamers have discovered that the game’s steam page has since been removed. The removal of the Dead Island 2 Steam page has fueled speculation that the long-in-development zombie-killing sequel might be on indefinite hold after switching developers.Īlthough publisher Deep Silver has yet to make anything official, the evidence continues to mount suggesting Dead Island 2 has been cancelled.
